An Italian Affair: Decadent Tiramisu for Sweet Endings

My love affair with Italian cuisine began the moment I set foot in Italy during one of our cruises. Among the many delights, Tiramisu stood out as a symbol of indulgence, a dessert that perfectly embodies the romance and richness of Italian culture. This no-bake dessert, layered with creamy mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfingers, topped with a dusting of cocoa powder, is my go-to recipe for bringing a piece of Italy into my home.

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 2 packages ladyfingers (about 24 pieces)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)

  1. In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale. Add mascarpone and blend until smooth.
  2. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
  3. Combine coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them.
  4. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat layers.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings.

This Tiramisu recipe is more than just a dessert; it’s a journey through the flavors and textures that make Italian cuisine so beloved. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a sweet treat, this Tiramisu will surely leave you and your guests longing for more. Buon appetito!
